Meet... Ruth Ferguson
The most incredible thing about Ruth Ferguson is not what she has done, but how she has done it. She’s an outgoing, upbeat, high energy person with a natural instinct for channeling her enthusiasm into virtually any role, life circumstance or entertainment opportunity.
As a professional performer for more than 20 years, Ruth’s experience runs the gamut from stage and television to stadiums and billboards. Her versatility and verve has propelled her through a career in music, clowning, modeling, character acting and hosting her own live and taped t.v. programs. She is a vocal powerhouse and a no-holds-barred entertainer on stage, on screen and in life. If she doesn’t have an audience, she’ll make one.
Career highlights include singing anthems for special events such as the World Cup Downhill Race and the World Police and Fire Games, and appearing with her band as the opening act for Glass Tiger, Alannah Miles and others. As one of the most endeared and enduring mascots in the country, she thrilled and motivated Calgary Cannons fans for 14 years, in the physically demanding and tremendously rewarding character of Wabash. Her role with Shaw Cable saw Ruth as the power behind “Unleashed” and “The Thursday Edition” as on air host for 8 years. Working behind the scenes as well allowed time behind the camera and in the editing room to enhance her skills as a producer and director. At dozens of special events, she has brought her own zany brand of humour to characters that range from auctioneer to zookeeper, and as varied has her renditions of Charlie Chaplin and Dame Edna. And, proving there is no bigger, brighter smile in western Canada, Ruth’s twelve-foot tall grin has been plastered on advertising billboards throughout Calgary.
The not-so-average qualities that inherently accompany Ruth in her day to day, year to year growth as a performer are the abounding energy that is instantly available to her at any given moment, and a rapport with both huge crowds and individuals, that is simply uncanny. Whether bringing one of her impeccable characters to a corporate event, or stirring national pride in an arena full of spectators, there is no mistaking that Ruth Ferguson is indeed a very special kind of person – one with a larger than life attitude that shines through brilliantly, in every performance.
